Several Republican lawmakers bashed new White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and questioned why President Donald Trump would elevate him to the position in a Saturday report from Fox News Digital.

One unnamed congressman said they were in “utter disbelief” Trump chose Miller to replace Susie Wiles, while Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN) bluntly called it a “horrible decision.”

“Stephen is a megalomaniac who should have never been given the keys to the Ferrari,” another unnamed GOP lawmaker told reporter Elizabeth Elkind. “That being said, he’s not the reason why we lost. … No one knows who Stephen Miller is in our districts.”

Elkind’s report comes a day after Trump announced the move.

Miller thanked the president soon after, posting on X:

President Trump is the most transformative political leader in American History — and he has single-handedly saved America from those who would destroy it.

It has been the privilege of my lifetime to have served on his team from Day One, and I am honored beyond words to serve as his White House Chief of Staff.

I want to thank the incomparable Susie Wiles for her years of devoted service to the President and the Country, and for her friendship.

The mission now is more clear than ever: Fight with all of our soul to support our President and defend this magnificent Republic.

Miller has spearheaded Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration since he returned to office — which is one of the few issues voters said they trusted Republicans on more than Democrats, following the GOP’s drubbing in the midterms.

But lame duck Rep. Don Bacon (R-NB) doesn’t believe Miller helped Republicans with his focus on immigration. Before Trump’s announcement, he told Elkind that Miller had “greatly hurt the administration” and “cost us many seats on Tuesday.”

“He took an immigration policy that favored the president 2:1 in the public, overreached and made it 2:1 unfavorable,” Bacon said. “Many Republicans don’t like him.”
