Martha Stewart Deletes Post After Backlash Over Homeless Halloween Costume: I’m ‘Distressed’ My Costume ‘Offended People’

Martha Stewart apologized for and deleted a picture of her homeless Halloween costume

It doesn’t sound like she’ll be wearing the same costume again next year.

Martha Stewart on Sunday deleted an Instagram post showing her dressed up as a homeless person for Halloween, which included her sporting a beanie, a flannel shirt, and some black-ish makeup on her face to make her look grubby. Stewart completed the outfit by holding up a clipboard, which oddly had the phrase “I AM HUNGRY HELP ME!!” scribbled directly on it, rather than a piece of paper.

But after getting some complaints from fans, Stewart yanked the post down. The 85-year-old TV personality and convict then told Page Six it wasn’t the best look.

“I am distressed that my Halloween costume yesterday, which was intended to bring more awareness to the very serious subject of homelessness, has offended people, which was never my intention,” Stewart told the outlet. “Homelessness continues to remain one of America’s greatest challenges and ongoing crises, something that I care deeply about and I have spent a significant amount of time and effort supporting charities that combat this ongoing social epidemic. [I’m] committed to continuing to make a difference.”

Page Six pointed out she was getting a lot of heat for it on Reddit, where users were saying it was “offensive” and “out of touch.”

Stewart seems to be a pretty big fan of Halloween, based on the pictures she has on her Instagram that she hasn’t deleted. She posted a few other pics of her house decked out in orange and black decorations on Saturday, as she said she was patiently waiting for trick or treaters to drop by.

Check out her since-deleted pic above, thanks to Yashar Ali on X.
