Sylvester Stallone’s R-Rated Action Thriller Officially Gets a Second Chance on Prime Video

A Taylor Sheridan series is never far from the streaming summit, and his latest big hit is the indulgent Tulsa King. Since its Season 4 premiere, the show has continued to dominate the competition on Paramount+, only losing out on the top spot to the hugely popular adult animated comedy South Park. The return of Sylvester Stallone‘s Dwight “The General” Manfredi has once again thrust the Hollywood icon into the spotlight, as he fights “to legitimize his empire while facing corrupt politicians and new enemies” in Season 4.

Flula Borg of The Rookie fame and Boardwalk Empire‘s Gretchen Mol have been added as new series regulars, helping elevate the series to new heights and resulting in an 86% average approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. These are high scores for an actor with a catalog as varied as Stallone’s, with the Golden Globe winner appearing in some of the highest and lowest-rated movies and shows of all time. As Tulsa King dominates, one of Stallone’s worst-reviewed projects is also proving an unlikely streaming favorite.

The action thriller Alarum, which also stars Scott Eastwood and Mike Colter, is the owner of an impressively improbable 0% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. “Even committed performances can’t quite move the needle when the concept of the scene is undercooked, wasting a talented cast and what could be an engaging premise for no comprehensible reason at all,” wrote Collider’s Jeff Ewing in his 3/10 review, one of many scathing responses to the film. But despite such negativity, Alarum is a hit. At the time of writing, the movie is one of the ten most-watched on Prime Video in the world, doing battle with the likes of rom-com hit The Love Hypothesis and fantasy favorite Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

What Is ‘Alarum’ About?

If the 0% Rotten Tomatoes rating triggers your morbid curiosity, you’ll want to know what Alarum is about. The film follows former rivals Joe (Eastwood) and Lara (Willa Fitzgerald), who go rogue during a mission and get married. Now living off the grid at a quiet retreat, the pair are pulled back into danger when a wanted hard drive is discovered. The story was penned by Alexander Vesha and brought to the screen by director Michael Polish.

Alarum is one of the ten most-watched on Prime Video in the world. Stay tuned to Collider for more.
